KAVITA KANAKIA

Fitness Coach, Founder of Transform with Kavita

After over 2 decades in the fitness industry playing various roles, TWK was born out of my passion to empower individuals to transform themselves into the best version of themselves. Whatever the age or situation in their life, I believe that we humans must respect and care for our body and ensure we can live a fit and healthy life. 

With a vision to empower individuals to achieve optimal health and fitness, TWK strives to provide personalised and sustainable fitness solutions, create education and awareness about holistic wellness and build a supportive community.

From my personal experience, losing fat/gaining muscle is not just about kilos and inches. To develop a strong, functional and vibrant body an equally strong mindset is needed to support it.  In the process of reaching their fitness goals, most clients hit mental road blocks, lack confidence & self-belief. One of the first questions I ask them is to find out their ‘WHY’ and I keep holding them accountable to this deep-rooted sense of purpose. My approach of focusing on physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, as well as lifestyle coaching makes it more rounded and holistic. This is my forte and sets me apart from dieticians and personal trainers who are only body centric.

MY TRANSFORMATION

My approach to TWK got formed in my own experiments with my fitness. This is my story-

 

I had been working out forever, but I had never managed to piece out the nutrition angle. I was never 'obese' but I did not feel I was at my personal best either.  But I kept trying out different regimens which gave me temporary solutions but were not sustainable.  Right from GM to intermittent fasting to Keto; I had experimented with everything. But nothing seemed to fit into my lifestyle.

Inspite of regular exercise, at the age of 48 and slowing metabolism, I found myself at my heaviest @ 71.6 kgs. Along the way, I had also battled an ovarian cyst, endometriosis, and heavy bleeding . Every period was a living nightmare.

And then came COVID! Like every other person in the first lockdown, I baked, binge ate, and over ate most meals. The weight just kept climbing so did the visceral obesity. That’s when I realised that despite all the knowledge I possessed, I needed external help to keep me accountable. I found myself a wonderful coach who not only re-programmed my approach to exercise and nutrition but also kept a regular check on my progress and held me accountable to the goals that I had set for myself. Under my coach’s nutritional guidance and you tube workouts, I dug my head in and put in the work. The Covid situation certainly helped as outings and parties were at a near zero. Slowly and steadily the weight dropped and in 9 months I was 14 kgs down.

That’s when I realised the importance of having a scientific approach to nutrition and fitness and most importantly, the importance of a coach in helping me achieve my goals. I knew instinctively that this was my calling in life. I had to become a coach and help others unleash their best version too.

I am not blessed with great genes that permit me to live an indulgent lifestyle. My struggle with gaining weight, losing weight, following unsustainable fad diets was very real.  My own transformation at this stage of my life has been a great source of learning and more than anything, it has made me aware and sensitive to the challenges of my clients who are struggling with obesity and a body negative mindset.

On the personal front, I am married and a mom of 2 grown up kids. My biggest achievement is that I have been able to inculcate fitness as a lifestyle into not only my immediate family but also my extended family and friends. I encourage them by walking the talk and relentlessly pursuing my own goals. I believe this is the best education that I can give my children!
